there's problems with the way romney went through that debate. looked good but didn't exactly convey a lot of truth. your thoughts? >> that's exactly what democrats are saying. paul ryan was out today and says that he expects for the next month he's going to hear from the obama campaign that they are liars and you hear liberals picking up on that. again, to go to this point about "saturday night live," i think it underscores what people already saw from that debate, which is that president obama turned in a very poor performance. i thought that he would have been smart to go on to "saturday night live" and sort of lampoon himself. we saw him do that out west. i guess the "saturday night live" folks reached out to him and they both declined. i think it has been a right of passage in elections, going back to 2008 when mccain was on, obama was on, hillary clinton was on and sarah palin, too. it is part of our political discourse. it reinforces the narratives. i think "snl" has had problems portraying obama. they switched to a new guy. jay ferrel see

president obama would you say not prepared for his huge debate with governor romney. this isn't about left, right, good or bad, it's about coming to work to work. his challenger did. he took command. he took charge of that stage. issuing orders to moderator and rival al like. he owned that platform, opened all within the sound of his voice. it was impressive, powerful and must have been just who ahorrib feel the sufficiency of the thing. with romney in the room, there didn't need to be anywhere else. so i'm not here to slam obama for a hard night and that's what it is. my concern is his readiness to skip the politics of this campaign. today that means mastering the 24 hour clock. back and forth of politics, the war room stuff that gets you elected, protects you from being destroyed. did the president know he was allowed to mention his champion of the auto industry, did he know he was allowed to interrupt the pissant conversation about .bs in excuse me, i rescued the auto industry. you were willing to have it go bankrupt. did obama know he could interrupt his rival's e

positive impressions of mitt romney from that debate. i don't foe if this competes with that. but certainly we saw in the past couple of months that people were beginning to feel a lot more confident about the economic situation personally and for the country. you saw it in the polls. we were wondering why was this data turning around. bill clinton gave a great speech at the convention and everyone loved what clinton said. it now turns out there was some underlying economic trends that was feeding that that we didn't really know about, but that makes sense now. and i think if that's the case heading into the critical month of october and obviously in november where we're going to have one more jobs report, i think that really does benefit the president. because that's been the underlying issue of this entire campaign. it's been the issue that mitt romney's campaigned on from the get-go. >> at the convention i think he framed obama the case for obama and particularly the case for obama on the economy more clearly than anyone else has on t
